About Us

At FitzFitness, we employ a diverse array of holistic therapies aimed at regulating, stimulating, and soothing the nervous system. Many of our clients exhibit heightened sensory responses, leading to constant activation of their Sympathetic Nervous System. This heightened state of “fight or flight” often manifests in various behaviours such as frustration, anxiety, stress, anger, hyperventilation, elevated blood pressure, and increased heart rate.

We know how important it is to engage the Parasympathetic Nervous System, or the “rest and digest” response. By slowing down our heart and breathing rates, and reducing blood pressure, we’re able to foster a sense of calmness throughout the body, which in turn helps reduce challenging behaviours, and leads to a happier you.

Darren Fitzharris

I’m Darren, a Wellness and Movement Specialist, and proud father of three amazing kids. Originally from Ireland, I made the move to Sydney, Australia in 2006. After working as a carpenter for 13 years, I embarked on a career change, entering the fitness industry in 2008 following my own transformative weight loss journey where I shed 30kg.

In 2009, alongside my personal training sessions, I ventured into the disability sector as a support worker. I took on the role of leading the fitness department, crafting programs for gym sessions and outdoor activities in the park. Additionally, I assumed the responsibilities of a Team Leader, orchestrating program logistics, managing support workers, fostering client relationships, and liaising with parents and management.

These experiences inspired the creation of my Therapy Through Movement/Holistic Program, tailored for individuals with a range of physical and intellectual disabilities, including Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, as well as those dealing with mental health challenges and brain injuries.
